Independent Educational Consultant

Karin Brown

Learning that lands. Working in higher education, professional training, and the spaces between.

Karin Brown

I help educators and their training organisations design learning that actually transfers. Grounded in evidence, shaped for real contexts, and built to last beyond the workshop. I work in English and German, across Swiss, European, and international contexts.

Four areas of practice

Across twenty years in higher education and professional training in Switzerland and internationally, I've developed a practice that combines conceptual depth with hands-on implementation. I work at the intersection of pedagogy, technology, and human potential.

01

Educational & Faculty Development

I design and facilitate programmes that help educators grow. I run teaching development workshops and can create modular professional frameworks. I am informed by my own research on learning transfer.

02

Blended & Online Learning Design

I translate face-to-face programmes into coherent blended and online experiences. With a strong emphasis on meaningful activity design which goes beyond digitising content. I am experienced with bilingual and multilingual learner groups.

03

AI Integration in Education

I help institutions think through AI adoption strategically, not as a technology question, but a pedagogical one. Running staff literacy workshops as well as developing institution-wide integration frameworks.

Moodle & Learning Platforms

I am an experienced Moodle administration and expert Moodle course designer. I help organisations get more from their LMS investment, while keeping people and accessibility in the centre.

Learning that travels beyond the room

Transfer first, always

The goal isn't a just successful training event. We want to see changes back at work. The most important question becomes, what do we want people to be able to do and how can I help them get there?

Evidence-informed

My work is grounded in learning science, transfer research, constructive alignment and, self-determination theory. However applied with sensitivity to context. There is no such thing as one-size-fits-all. Or is there?

Technology in service of people

I've been designing with digital tools for over two decades. I bring genuine enthusiasm for what technology enables as long as human competency development guides all actions. Especially in social fields.

Bilingual by practice, not just by passport

I work fully in English and German, thinking in both. That means I can design, facilitate, write, and consult with Swiss-German institutions and international organisations without losing nuance in either direction.

Twenty years around the world

I've built my practice through roles that combined strategic thinking with direct delivery. From implementing faculty development at one of Europe's top technical universities, designing distance learning for social service programmes in New Zealand, and currently developing AI integration and learning transfer strategies for a Swiss vocational training organisation.
